BENJAMIN KERSEY - MUSIC DIRECTOR

RESUME

Benjamin Kersey is a Franco-Ontarian music director known for his stylistic versatility within theatre and classical music, whose playing has been described as “absolutely wonderful, both musically and technically.”

Recent credits include Hadestown, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, & Juliet (Mirvish), Kelly v. Kelly, RETOLD, Take the Moment, UnCovered…Dolly Parton (Musical Stage), Enchanting!, Jesus Christ Superstar (Sheridan College), The Last Five Years (Olive Branch Theatre), Stephen Sondheim’s Follies in Concert at Koerner Hall (RCM), as well as cabaret acts across Ontario and New York City. Passionate about new Canadian works, he also music directed the premiere of Nobody’s Children (Yellow Door Theatre Project) and played piano and celeste on the premiere of Maid and Master: The Massey Murder (University of Toronto Opera).

Benjamin is a graduate of the University of Toronto with double majors in Classical Piano and French Literature, has received the ARTES scholarship, an award for Franco-Ontarian artists, and is a two-time Dora nominee. After holding the position of 2022-23 RBC Apprentice Music Director at The Musical Stage Company, Benjamin is looking forward to working as a Music Intern at the Shaw Festival in 2024. He is proud to be a member of the AFM and to be represented by Talent House, and is forever thankful to those who have helped shape his artistry.
